Independent of land, water, weather, climate
Without animals
Without plants & agricultural chemistry
Taking root around 12,000 years ago, food production via agriculture triggered a fundamental change in society and the way in which people lived so that it has been dubbed the “Neolithic Revolution.” Traditional hunter-gatherer lifestyles, followed by humans since their evolution, were swept aside in favor of permanent settlements and a reliable food supply. Out of agriculture, cities and civilizations grew, and because crops and animals could now be farmed to meet demand, the global population rocketed—from some five million people 10,000 years ago, to more than 8 billion today.
We have seen amazing progress in the cultivation of plants and animals, driven by mechanization, breeding of high yielding varieties and technologies from all sectors, including the Haber-Bosch process for developing ammonia (fertilizer), robotics, genetics and information sciences, which are collectively responsible for most of us being alive today.
Yet, all of these advances still rely on the same millenia-old agricultural practices of using massive amounts of land and water, depleting precious resources and significantly contributing to deforestation and a staggering biodiversity loss, pollution and an accelerating change of the global climate, all of which are threatening the very basis of life on this planet.
Fermx aims to reduce the traditional sources of our food production system, by minimizing the use of animals as well as land-consuming, plant-based feedstock and water.
